What can you say about someone who you have known for the best part of 50 years, as friend, mentor, comforter, and stalwart support of an organsisation dear to both our hearts? One Saturday evening, at the BPW annual conference, we are sharing the same table at the farewell dinner, discussing almost anything you could think of as long term friends - then the news comes in the Saturday after that she is no more! Apart from the shock of realising that you have lost a friend, how come someone so attentive to all needs, advising on governance even up to the end with her direct, but gentle, approach, could have gone so quickly? Rest in the peace of the Lord, dear Sylvia.
